Thanks for your rawness, Nurse Kristin, I appreciate the realness. I lived in San Francisco for 31 years and heard swarthy tales of SF General, the City hospital on Potrero Avenue, which was the Wild West 100%. That is also where the AIDS epidemic had its "cauldron", and where epidemiologists began to watch the inception of that terrible plague. Humans are certainly raw creatures and self included. Keep well and grounded and please take good care of yourself! Your voice is needed! Wendy
Ohh thatβs so interesting Wendy. I definitely studied the history of the AIDS epidemic and when I started worked with several nurses who worked through it. Heard a much different story actually. Thankfully havenβt had to care for an AIDS patient in years.. not the way I used to now I see only a few patients who are HIV positive from time to time. π€
Thanks, you just gave me an idea for a piece! Thanks for being here, my rawness is usually an acquired taste xoxo
Kristin, If memory serves me correctly, the epidemiologist at SF General, who ran the AIDS ward and was learning from the front lines about HIV and transmission, his name was Dr. Paul Volberding. Not sure if I have the spelling...but he was front and center to all that madness. That is the power of being in the medical field and having not only a heart but a pair of seeing eyes! You do! I like raw, with a heart, like myself and like you.
Oh I like that! I have done it my whole life. My dad used to read my cards outloud saying βLove deboxβ spoken with his British accent. Oh I miss that :(
Oh I love this, have 2 nurse friends now from UMV who call NJ home now!! Theyβve seen way more than Iβve seen by the way. Also I am the queen of the cast iron bakeware. XOXO
Las Vegas is one of those Knife and Gun Club cities. Years ago my ex husband had a cactus thorn in his knee. It turned bright red one evening and was terribly infected. Fearing sepsis, we went to the hospital in the middle of the night. We headed for Valley Hospital, but ended up next door at the University Medical Center emergency room. It was like no emergency room I had ever entered. I had to wait in the lounge while they took my husband back for treatment.
The two hours went by very slow and the only thing playing on the TV ironically was Friday the 13th episodes. Ironically, because the stream patients continuously came through the door shot up or carved up! Thatβs when I realized we are not at Valley Hospital. π¬
Have fun camping! My sis was a huge camper. Her and her husband would go to notes every summer him up to Davis Lake near Tahoe. My sis was a huge camper. I drove up and visited her one time and she made the most delicious food by digging a hole and starting a campfire under rocks etc. and made the most delicious meals in cast-iron cookware.π
